Psalm 140 Pride (Part 1)

Psalm 140:8

Do not grant the wicked their desires O‘ LORD;

Do not let their plans succeed,

Or they will become proud.

Pride……

It puzzles me.

What do you take pride in?

 I hear men say…..

“Take pride in your work”

And they mean it as a good thing.

I hear the same men say….

“Pride is the greatest sin”

And they mean it as a warning.

Pride…….

A high sense of dignity or worth.

Being pleased with something I have done.

These don’t sound so bad….

In fact….. I like the sound of both of them.

And yet the warnings remain……

Proverbs 16:18

Pride goes before destruction….

1 Peter 5:5

God opposes the proud….

Will I be destroyed for having a sense of dignity and worth?

Does God not want me to be pleased with my good work?

No…. I don’t think that could be it.

I wonder……

I think I need to ponder it awhile.

Let’s talk again tomorrow…okay?

Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,

I do not understand.

Help me LORD to understand.

Show me the difference between…….

Pride as the good thing

and

Pride that leads to destruction.
